ESSAYS, PAPERS & REPORTS
1975 - 2000

Most of these essays and papers were written while I was Consultant to the Director General of the British Library (1975-1995) and Editor of the ESTC (1976-1992). They range over a wide spectrum of issues with which the British Library was necessarily concerned during these formative years: cataloguing rules and practices; preservation; online catalogues; staff training in information technology; reproduction technology. Starting in 1987 with the Microcomputer Symposium I was heavily involved in both staff training and in assisting readers with their research projects using the Internet and library catalogues then only available by Telnet. In the next few weeks further contributions will be made available on this site. Any use made of these contributions will, I trust, be acknowledged.
